The period leading up to exams can be very stressful indeed; you’re trying to learn as much as you can, be as prepared as possible, whilst still trying to have normal life – it’s no wonder many people struggle to organise themselves during this particular time.
Whilst we can’t deny that exams can be little worrying, if you do your research and revision effectively, there is nothing to worry about. Despite that fact, many people don’t find revision easy.

Make sure you know what you are supposed to be learning
Every course has a syllabus, so make sure you know what is on it. It might sound ridiculous but ensure you know the topics you’re likely to be asked about, and that way you won’t be focusing your revision time on areas that you’re unlikely to answer on.
Organisation Is Everything!
A revision timetable will help you no end. It doesn’t matter how close your exams are, figure out what you need to learn, how much time you have, and split your workload up evenly. Having a timetable to work will help you focus your mind and stop you feeling out of control with your workload. Despite this, however, it’s important to know that things can and do happen, so don’t worry if you have a minor setback and you find yourself behind with your timetable; simply reorganise it, and carry on.
It’s Good To Talk
Reiterating what you have learnt with a fellow student is not just a great way to reinforce it in your mind, but to also see if you can get a different take on the subject. You never know, you might teach each other something new!
Past Papers Are A Huge Help
Most colleges will be more than happy to provide you with past exam papers to look over. These have two main functions, a) they help you familiarise yourself with the types of questions you’re likely to be asked and how to answer them correctly, and b) questions are often repeated, just worded slightly differently, so this could help you on exam day.
Taking A Break Is Good For Your Brain
You might feel like you need to cram everything you can into your brain in as much time as you have, but this won’t be that effective. Make sure you take regular breaks; there have been many studies gone into this, proving that regular breaks away from your studies will help the content sink into your mind much easier – try taking ten minutes off every hour.
Look After Your Body And It Will Look After You
This isn’t just a piece of advice for exam preparation time, but for life! Make sure you eat healthy, getting as many fruit and vegetables into your diet as possible, to give you a great balance of vitamins and minerals. On top of this, feed your brain with some omega 3; oily fish is a good source of this, however you can take a supplement if you’re not a fish fan.
Exercise is also important, because it helps you break away from study for a few minutes, whilst also giving you extra energy boosts, when you might be flagging slightly. Blood flow is increased when you exercise, which gets more oxygen to your brain, and as a result it works much better!
Keep Everything In Perspective
Yes, your exams are very important, and it’s equally as important to make sure you have given yourself the best shot at doing well. Try not to get too stressed out, and allow yourself time to relax; taking time out in the evening is a good way to chill out, so head out for a walk or go for a chat with a friend perhaps. Keep your mind in perspective, don’t allow exam stress to take hold, and you will be much more prepared!
